Sea Vigil 2024 Exercise

  • 21 Nov 2024

On 20th November 2024, the second phase of the Sea Vigil exercise, aimed at assessing the preparedness of security forces along India’s coast, commenced off the Goa coast.

  • The Sea Vigil exercise, initiated in 2018, is designed to address security gaps post the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and evaluate the progress of coastal security mechanisms.
  • The exercise includes the participation of various agencies, such as the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Goa Police, Intelligence Bureau, and state fisheries departments, who are working together to evaluate the security infrastructure in coastal areas.
  • A key feature of this exercise is increasing public awareness, with the involvement of children from Scout and Guides and NCC cadets to educate local populations on coastal security.
  • In this edition, a realistic simulation of coastal security threats is being conducted, with mock infiltrators being intercepted, and various agencies are working together to assess the effectiveness of current measures and security response.
