  • 16 Nov 2024

The Indian Navy will conduct the fourth edition of the pan-India coastal defence exercise ‘Sea Vigil-24’ on 20 and 21st November 2024, expanding both in scope and participation to strengthen India’s coastal security.

  • This year’s Sea Vigil exercise will involve six ministries and 21 organizations, reflecting a comprehensive national approach to coastal security.
  • The Coastal Defence & Security Readiness Evaluation phase, led by Naval Officers-in-Charge from all coastal states and UTs, began in late October, auditing the coastal security infrastructure across India’s entire coastline.
  • National Security Council Secretariat officials will join Indian Navy-led evaluation teams for the first time, alongside personnel from the State Marine Police, Coast Guard, Customs, and Fisheries departments.
  • The exercise will focus on safeguarding crucial coastal assets, including ports, oil rigs, cable landing points, and population hubs, emphasizing coordinated action among maritime stakeholders.
  • Since its inception in 2018, Sea Vigil has been designed to test and enhance coastal defence post-26/11, covering India’s 11,098 km coastline and its 2.4 million square kilometres Exclusive Economic Zone.
