India and USA Sign 'Cultural Property Agreement’
On 26th July, 2024, India and the United States formalized their commitment to protecting cultural heritage by signing the first-ever Cultural Property Agreement (CPA).
- The signing took place during the 46th World Heritage Committee meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, marking a significant step in international cooperation for cultural preservation.
- With this agreement, India joins a group of 29 countries that have similar partnerships with the United States.
Objective
- To combat the illicit trafficking of Indian antiquities and facilitate the repatriation of cultural property to its country of origin.
