Threats to Wetlands
- Urbanization: Wetlands close to metropolitan centres are increasingly being pressured by development for housing, business, and industrial infrastructure. Urban wetlands are crucial for maintaining the availability of public water.
- Anthropogenic Activities: Wetlands have been drained and changed as a result of unplanned urban and agricultural development, industries, road construction, impoundment, resource extraction, and dredge disposal, resulting in significant long-term economic and ecological losses.
