Private Sector in Education
Need
- Retreat of Public Spending: Nearly 3% of India's GDP is allocated to the education sector. This is lower than the suggested 6 per cent that is required in several policy papers.
- Improving the Quality of Education: Public educational institutions, including many research institutes, struggle with a lack of qualified teachers, teacher absenteeism, inadequate infrastructure, obsolete curricula, and a climate that is not conducive to academic inquiry. This limits the ability to come up with original solutions to issues, which lowers the standard of schooling as a whole. Even within public sector organisations, this necessitates private sector involvement.
