Carrhotus piperus
- A new species of jumping spider, Carrhotus piperus, has been recently discovered in the lower Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu.
- The species brings the total number of known Carrhotus species in India to 10, and to 37 globally, underscoring the region's rich spider diversity.
- This spider is easily distinguishable by its prolateral protrusion and beak-shaped embolus, making it unique among the genus Carrhotus.
