Genome Mapping of Chandipura vesiculovirus
- The Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC) has recently published the only fully mapped genome of the Chandipura vesiculovirus (CHPV).
- Chandipura is a viral infection linked to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), causing severe symptoms such as fever, headache, convulsions, and brain swelling, primarily affecting children under 15.
- Spread by sandflies and mosquitoes, the virus recently caused an outbreak in Gujarat, with children exhibiting rapid disease progression and high mortality rates.
- Genome mapping aids in understanding virus mutations and origins, critical for developing diagnostic tests, vaccines, and treatments.
