The Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023
The Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 received the assent of the President on 25th December, 2023. It will come into effect from July 1, 2024.
- The Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 replaces the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
- The Act consolidates and provides for general rules and principles of evidence for fair trial.
- It makes electronic or digital records admissible as evidence; thereby they will have the same legal effect as paper documents.
- It repeals five existing provisions of the Evidence Act, modifies 23 provisions, and adds one new provision.
- The Act proposes amendments to 23 Sections and contains 170 Sections in total.
