Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act 2023
On 11 August, 2023, the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2023 was notified.
- A total of 183 provisions are being proposed to be decriminalized in 42 Central Acts administered by 19 Ministries/Departments.
- The Act amends some older Acts to provide for the appointment of Adjudicating Officers to decide penalties. It also specifies the appellate mechanism.
- The Act seeks to create an Environmental Protection Fund for education, awareness, and research on environmental protection.
- Fines and penalties for certain offences in specified Acts are being increased. These fines and penalties will be increased by 10% of the minimum amount every three years.
