The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023
The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 received the assent of the President on 25th December, 2023. It will come into effect from July 1, 2024.
- The Act repeals the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, allowing for trials and proceedings to be conducted electronically.
- First-time offenders may be granted bail after serving one-third of the maximum imprisonment term.
- It renumbers Section 41A to Section 35, requiring approval from a Deputy Superintendent of Police for arrests, especially for minor offenses or individuals above 60.
