RBI includes PM Vishwakarma under PIDF Scheme
On 6th October, 2023, Reserve Bank Governor announced the inclusion of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme under the Payments Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) Scheme, along with a two-year extension of the PIDF scheme's tenure.
- The PIDF Scheme has been extended until December 31, 2025, aiming to boost payment acceptance infrastructure deployment.
- Initially set for three years until December 2023, the scheme now includes beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme across all centers, encouraging digital transactions at grassroots levels.
- To accelerate infrastructure deployment, emerging payment acceptance methods like soundbox and Aadhaar-enabled biometric devices will be promoted under the PIDF Scheme.
