National Quantum Mission
On April 19, 2023, the Union Cabinet of India gave the green light to the National Quantum Mission (NQM), which will aid in research and development in quantum technology.
- The mission aims to boost Quantum Technology (QT) R&D in India, fostering innovation.
- Goals include developing intermediate-scale quantum computers with 50-1000 physical qubits within eight years, utilizing superconducting and photonic technology.
- It aims to establish satellite-based secure quantum communication within India with a range of up to 2000 km and long-distance secure quantum communications with other countries.
- Additionally, it seeks to set up inter-city quantum key distribution over 2000 km.
