Answer: Champaran Satyagraha (1917) was the first major non-violent movement of the Indian freedom struggle. This movement took place in Champaran district of Bihar against the exploitation of farmers by the British for Indigo cultivation. It gave a new direction to the Indian freedom struggle and established the stature of Gandhiji at the national level.
