Answer: The Santhal rebellion (1855-1856), also known as Santhal Hul, is a symbol of tribal resistance in the Indian freedom struggle. Under the leadership of Sidho and Kanhu Murmu, this began in the Santhal Pargnas of Jharkhand.
- In 1832-33, the British established Damin-i-Koh and allotted land to the Santhals for cultivation. However, over time the policies of the British Raj, the atrocities of the landlords and moneylenders and the burden of taxes increased. Due to these reasons, the Santhals were deprived of their land and pushed into poverty.
