Steps towards Decarbonisation
- National Green Hydrogen Mission: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with pilot projects for using hydrogen to produce Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) and reduce coal/coke consumption in steel production.
- Steel Scrap Recycling Policy, 2019: The Policy aims to enhance domestically generated scrap availability, supported by Vehicle Scrapping Facility Rules, 2021, to reduce emissions.
- National Solar Mission: Launched in 2010, it promotes solar energy usage, contributing to emission reduction in the steel industry.
- Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT): This scheme under the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency incentivizes reduced energy consumption in the steel sector.
