Television Ratings and BARC
Recently, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoI&B) has constituted a committee to review guidelines on Television Rating agencies in India.
Present System
- In 2014, MoI&B formulated policy guidelines for television rating agencies to operate in India. It provides for self-regulation of television ratings.
- BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) was thus formed in 2015 as an industry-led body represented by the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), the Indian Society of Advertisers (ISA) and the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI).
- BARC uses BAR-O-Meter to gauge Television Rating Points (TRPs) and for the same purpose have empanelled BAR-O-Meter in 45000 houses.
