About Parliamentary Committees

  • Parliamentary committees are of two kinds - Standing Committees (Permanent in nature; Constituted every year; works on a continuous basis) and Ad Hoc Committees (Temporary in nature; Cease to exist on completion of the task assigned to them).
  • Standing committees are further classified into financial committees (like Public Accounts committee, Estimates Committee and Committee on Public Undertakings), Departmental Standing committee (associated with ministry), House-keeping committees etc. whereas Ad hoc committees are mostly inquisitive or advisory in nature.
