National Medical Commission Act, 2019

On 7th August, President of India gave assent to the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, 2019 which is aimed at ushering in mega reforms in the medical education sector.

Salient Features of the Act

  • It establishes the National Medical Commission (NMC) at union level and directs states to establish State Medical Councils, within three years of the passage of the Bill.
  • Functions of NMC includes - Regulating medical institutions and medical professionals; Assessing the requirements of healthcare-related human resources and infrastructure; Ensuring compliance by the State Medical Councils; and Framing guidelines for determination of fees for up to 50% of the ....
