Chief Justice of India under RTI

  • On 13th November 2019, the five-member Constitution bench of Supreme Court (SC) held that office of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) is a public authority under the Right to Information Act.

RTI Act, 2005

  • Right to Information was adjudged as a fundamental right under article 19 by Supreme Court in the Raj Narain vs the State of Uttar Pradesh case.
  • The Right to Information act, 2005 mandates the public authority to disclose information when requested. To ensure the same, Public Information Officers are appointed under the act.
