International Liquid-Mirror Telescope
Recently, the International Liquid-Mirror Telescope (ILMT) was commissioned at the Devasthal Observatory campus owned by Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital in Uttarakhand. It is the first liquid-mirror telescope in the country and the largest in Asia.
ILMT: Key Points
- Design & Development: Astronomers from India, Belgium and Canada designed the telescope. It was built by the Advanced Mechanical and Optical Systems (AMOS) Corporation and the Centre Spatial de Liège in Belgium.
- Poland and Uzbekistan are also part of this project.
