Total Homeless People: The 2011 Census of India reveals that the urban population of the country stood at 31.16% where there are about 4.5 lakh homeless families and a total population of 17.73 lakh is living without any roof over their heads.
Urban-Rural Divide: Out of total 17.73 lakh homeless people, 9,38,348 from urban areas and 8,34,692 from rural areas.
States with Acute Housing Crisis: Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are the two states with an acute housing crisis.
