China Bans Rare Earth Technology Exports
On 21st December, 2023, China, the leading global rare earth processor, implemented a ban on exporting key extraction and separation technologies for rare earth metals, citing national security concerns.
- The decision was made as part of an overhaul of the "Catalogue of Technologies Prohibited and Restricted from Export," with public opinion sought in December the previous year.
- Alongside the ban on technology, the export of production technology for rare earth metals and alloy materials has also been restricted, including technology for preparing certain rare earth magnets.
