Project Elephant

Initiated in 1992 by the Government of India, Project Elephant aims at conserving elephants and their habitat and of migratory routes by developing scientific and planned management measures.

Key Facts

  • Under the project, welfare of domestic elephants is also considered, issues like mitigation of human-elephant conflict are also taken care of.
  • The project’s endeavour is to strengthen the measures for protection of elephants against poachers and unnatural death.
  • Financial and Technical support are being provided to major elephant bearing States in the country.
  • The Project is being mainly implemented in 16 States / UTs, viz. Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, ....
