India’s Fourth Nuclear Submarine Launched
On 16th October 2024, India launched its fourth nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), S4*, at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam, marking another milestone in its naval capabilities.
- The submarine, an advanced version of the earlier INS Arihant, further strengthens India's nuclear deterrence strategy.

- Indigenous Content: The S4* SSBN features significant indigenous content and improved capabilities compared to earlier submarines like INS Arihant.
- Enhanced Capabilities: The S4* is larger and equipped with an advanced reactor. It can carry the K-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) with a range of 3,500 km, providing a greater standoff capability.
