Constitution of India

The Indian Constitution is “sui-generis” (of its own kind/unique) in its substance and essence. Nonetheless, borrowed from almost every Constitution in the world, our Constitution has numerous relevant features that differentiate it from the rest.

  • The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949. It came into force with effect from 26th January 1950.
  • Indian Constitution is a “written” Constitution, which was drafted after a prolonged process of discussion by the Constituent Assembly (1946-49).
  • A written Constitution imparts supremacy on the Constitution itself. Originally, our Constitution had 22 Parts, 395 Articles and 8 Schedules.
