Conservation Methods
In-situ Conservation
- The conservation of species in their natural habitat or natural ecosystem is known as in situ conservation. In the process, the natural surrounding or ecosystem is protected and maintained so that all the constituent species (known or unknown) are conserved and benefited.
- Certain protected areas where in-situ conservation takes place include national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, protected areas and biosphere reserves.
- It is a cost-effective and a convenient method of conserving biodiversity.
- A large number of living organisms can be conserved simultaneously.
- Since the organisms are in a natural ecosystem, they can evolve better and can easily adjust to different environmental conditions.
