History of Uttar Pradesh
The history of Uttar Pradesh is very much associated with the broad history of India. It dates back to thousands of years ago. Formerly the area of Uttar Pradesh was occupied by the Aryans or the Dasas and their main occupation was agriculture. The Aryans, through conquests occupied the adjoining areas too.
The historians have classified the Indian history broadly into five periods/ages. Differences, however, lie in the periodicity of various classifications. The most prevalent classification is –
- Vedic Period (200 B.C. - 1000 B.C.)
- Pauranic or Mahabharat Period (1000 B.C. - 600 B.C.)
- Ancient Period or Hindu Period (600 B.C. - 600 ....
