​GEF Council Approves $736.4 Million for Environmental Projects

The 67th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council, held from 17th to 20th June, 2024, concluded with the approval of $736.4 million in funding for various nature protection and renewal projects.

  • The funding includes projects under the GEF Trust Fund, Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF), Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), and the multi-Trust fund.
  • The GBFF council approved its first work programme, allocating $37.8 million for protected area management in Brazil and Mexico.
  • The three GBFF-funded projects aim to enhance the sustainability of over 30 million hectares of protected areas, supporting long-term financing and indigenous-led conservation efforts.
