Legacy/Significance
- Inspiration in Freedom Struggle: Tipu Sultan rose to prominence as a symbol of resistance against British rule throughout India's war for independence. His death in 1799 while defending his citadel of Srirangaptna from British forces was hailed as the ultimate act of patriotism.
- Administrative and Economic Reforms: Tipu Sultan was a leader in both economic and administrative changes. He launched a new land revenue system in Mysore, introduced new coins, and popularised sericulture, or the farming of silkworms, which continues to be a significant source of employment for many Kannadigas today.
