Dravidian Movement
Significance
- Empowerment of Lower Classes: The Dravidian movement was against the Brahmins’ societal domination. It empowered the lower castes/classes.
- Reservations to various Communities in Government Jobs: The movement demanded and gave reservations to backward classes to promote administrative equality.
- Equitable Access: The Dravidian movement passed various legislations that allowed Dalits to use all the public space without discrimination. It included temple entries to non-Brahmins.
- Brahmin Dominance in Institutions: Dravidians believed in the Aryan invasion theory and thus wanted to remove the Brahmanical dominance in the institutions of marriage, social work, yagya, etc.
