PM Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhyaan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 20th June 2020 launched ‘Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan’ to empower and provide livelihood opportunities in areas/ villages witnessing large number of returnee migrant workers affected by the devastating COVID-19.

  • By September 2020, 27.21 crore man-days employment was provided under the PM Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan.

Why Introduced?

  • The wide influx of migrants from major cities to their parent states.
  • The increasing demand for employment due to COVID induced lock down.
  • The unequal impact of COVID-19 on different classes of the society.
  • Providing minimum income to poor for their healthy sustenance.
