On 9th May, 2019, Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu) Collector banned Manjuvirattu scheduled to be held at Karisalpatti village, following a warning from the district police that the event would pose a threat to law and order in the area.
About Manjuvirattu
- Manjuvirattu is a bull taming event held in various parts of Tamil Nadu. It literally means ‘bull chasing’.
- This sport is also known as Jallikattu and Eru thazhuvutha in various regions of Tamil Nadu.
- In this sport, Pulikulamor Kangayam bull breed is released into a crowd.
- The participants of the crowd individually attempt to grab and hold on to the bull’s hump ....
