RBI and FIU-IND Ink Pact to Combat Money Laundering

On 17th April 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) signed a MoU to enhance coordination in tackling money laundering and terror financing.

  • The MoU was signed by FIU-IND Director Vivek Aggarwal and RBI Executive Director R.L.K. Rao, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s anti-money laundering (AML) framework.
  • The collaboration focuses on effective implementation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and the associated rules to improve oversight and compliance.
  • The RBI and FIU-IND have agreed to share relevant intelligence and information from their respective databases to ensure timely identification and mitigation of financial crimes.
  • A key element of the partnership is the joint upskilling of regulated entities in Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) practices.
  • Both organizations will engage in outreach and training programs targeted at financial institutions to improve industry-wide awareness and operational readiness.
