On 24th March, India reiterated its commitment to eliminating TB by 2025, highlighting progress and intensified efforts against the deadly disease.

  • TB-related deaths in India dropped by 21.4% during the same period, reflecting the impact of awareness campaigns and improved treatment access.
  • The India 100 Days TB Elimination Campaign, launched in December, identified over five lakh TB patients in 347 high-priority districts across 33 states and union territories.
  • To enhance patient support, financial assistance under the Nikshya Poshan Yojana was doubled from Rs.500 to Rs.1,000 per month to ensure proper nutrition during treatment.
  • Despite progress, India still accounts for 26% of global TB cases and 29% of TB-related deaths, underscoring the need for sustained efforts.
