IRCTC and IRFC Granted Navratna Status
- 04 Mar 2025
On 3rd March 2025, the central government conferred Navratna status upon Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC), increasing the total number of Navratna companies in India to 26.
- The Department of Public Enterprises recognised the strong financial performance of both public sector enterprises under the Ministry of Railways.
- Navratna status grants enhanced autonomy, allowing these companies to make financial investments of up to ₹1,000 crore without requiring central government approval.
- The upgraded status enables faster decision-making in strategic projects, expansions, and joint ventures, strengthening their market competitiveness.
- IRCTC, responsible for railway catering, tourism, and online ticketing, and IRFC, which funds railway infrastructure projects, play crucial roles in the growth of Indian Railways.
- The move aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance the efficiency and global competitiveness of high-performing public sector enterprises.
