On 26th February 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully conducted flight trials of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.

Key Points

  • Successful Flight Test: The missile was launched from an Indian Navy Sea King helicopter and successfully hit a small ship target in sea-skimming mode at its maximum range.
  • Man-in-Loop Feature: The missile allows real-time target selection and in-flight retargeting, enhancing operational flexibility.
  • Advanced Guidance System: It is equipped with an Indigenous Imaging Infra-Red Seeker, Fiber Optic Gyroscope-based Inertial Navigation System (INS), and Radio Altimeter for precision targeting.
  • High-Bandwidth Datalink: A two-way datalink system enables pilots to receive live seeker images and adjust targeting mid-flight.
  • Indigenous Development: Developed by multiple DRDO laboratories, the missile is being produced with MSMEs, start-ups, and Development cum Production Partners.
