India Reaffirms Commitment to Social Justice

  • 20 Feb 2025

On 20th February 2025, the World Day of Social Justice is observed annually that highlights global efforts to combat poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion, with a focus on fairness, equality, and solidarity.

  • The United Nations established this day in 2009 to emphasize the role of governments and global institutions in promoting social justice and reducing inequalities.
  • India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) plays a crucial role in addressing socio-economic disparities through legislative reforms, grassroots programs, and international partnerships.
  • Various Indian government initiatives, including PM-AJAY, NAMASTE, SMILE, PM-DAKSH Yojana, and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, focus on education, skill development, and economic empowerment for marginalized communities.
  • Programs like SRESHTA and Purple Fests ensure access to quality education and social inclusion for vulnerable groups, including Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and transgender individuals.
  • The International Labour Organization (ILO) supports global efforts through its Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization, reinforcing the link between social justice and global peace and security.
