  • 18 Feb 2025

On 17th February 2025, Matsya-6000, India’s fourth-generation deep-ocean submersible successfully completed its wet testing at Kattupalli Port, marking a major milestone in the Samudrayan Project under the Deep Ocean Mission.

Key Points

  • Shallow-Water Demonstrations: Matsya-6000 will conduct 500-meter depth trials by the end of 2025.
  • Advanced Technology: Equipped with thrusters, ballast system, syntactic foam, and underwater navigation systems.
  • Communication Systems: Uses acoustic modem, underwater telephone, VHF, and GPS for precise tracking.
  • Human Life-Support: Features navigation joysticks, environmental displays, oceanographic sensors, cameras, and lighting.
  • Testing Milestones: Successfully passed dry tests, followed by wet tests at Kattupalli Port (Jan 27–February 12).
  • Next Steps: Despite limited underwater voice communication, the submersible is on track for deeper-water missions.
  • Development Lead: National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) is spearheading Matsya-6000’s development.
