India and Nepal Review Post-Earthquake Projects at JPMC

On 27 January 2025, the 5th Joint Project Monitoring Committee (JPMC) meeting on India-funded post-earthquake reconstruction projects was held in Kathmandu, co-chaired by officials from India and Nepal.

  • India has committed US$ 250 million in grant assistance for Nepal’s reconstruction, divided across housing, education, health, and cultural heritage sectors.
  • Housing sector projects were completed in 2021, while education projects were finished in 2024, with ongoing progress in health and cultural heritage initiatives.
  • India handed over 26 education projects, 32 health projects, and 3 cultural heritage projects since October 2023, totaling NPR 335.08 crore.
  • An additional 43 health and 9 cultural heritage projects worth NPR 173.49 crore have also been completed, significantly improving services in remote areas.
  • Both sides emphasized the positive socio-economic impacts, including job creation and improved health and education access.
