INCOIS Wins Subhash Chandra Bose Award 2025

On 23rd January 2025, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, was honoured with the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2025 for its outstanding contributions to disaster management.

  • INCOIS has been recognized for enhancing India’s disaster preparedness and response, particularly in ocean-related disasters, through cutting-edge technology and timely interventions.
  • Instituted by the Government of India, the award commemorates Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and honors exemplary contributions to disaster management, carrying a ₹51 lakh cash prize for institutions.
  • Established in 1999 in Hyderabad, INCOIS operates the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre (ITEWC), which provides tsunami alerts within 10 minutes and serves 28 Indian Ocean countries.
  • The organization’s timely advisories during cyclones like Phailin (2013) and Hudhud (2014) helped evacuate coastal populations, reducing casualties and safeguarding lives.
  • INCOIS developed tools like SARAT, aiding search and rescue missions, and SynOPS, a platform integrating real-time data for improved coordination during extreme events.
