Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh Named CRPF Chief

On 19th January 2025, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, Assam's police chief and 1991-batch IPS officer was appointed Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) until November 2027.
- Gyanendra Pratap Singh belongs to the Assam-Meghalaya cadre of the Indian Police Service and has served in various significant roles, including in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his tenure as CRPF Director General until his superannuation on November 30, 2027.
- The CRPF, one of India’s largest Central Armed Police Forces, is instrumental in maintaining internal security and counter-insurgency operations.
- Senior IPS officer Vitul Kumar was serving as the acting CRPF chief since the retirement of Anish Dayal Singh on December 31, 2024.
- Gyanendra Pratap Singh previously served as Assam’s additional DGP during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in 2019 before assuming the role of DGP.
