India Strengthens Telecom with Major Initiatives

On 17th January 2025, Union Minister announced transformative telecom projects, including the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0, and Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) at DBN-funded 4G sites.
- The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App empowers users to combat telecom fraud, verify mobile handset authenticity, and block lost or stolen devices on both Android and iOS platforms.
- National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0 aims to extend optical fiber connectivity to 270,000 villages, improve broadband speeds to 100 Mbps, and ensure 30% sustainable energy use for mobile towers by 2030.
- The initiative also plans to connect 90% of key institutions like schools and healthcare centers while reducing Right of Way application disposal time to 30 days by 2030.
- The introduction of Intra Circle Roaming at 27,000 DBN-funded 4G towers will provide seamless connectivity in over 35,000 villages, benefiting rural and remote regions.
- The Sanchar Saathi initiative has disconnected 2.75 crore fraudulent connections, recovered 25 lakh lost devices, and reduced spoofed calls through its International Incoming Spoofed Calls Prevention System.
