National Turmeric Board

On 14th January 2025, Union Minister inaugurated the National Turmeric Board (NTB) in New Delhi, aiming to enhance turmeric farming, production, and export in India.

  • The NTB headquarters will be in Nizamabad, with Palle Gangadhar Reddy as its first chairperson, addressing the long-pending demand of turmeric farmers across 20 states
  • Farmers cultivating turmeric, termed the "Golden Spice," are spread across states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu, with NTB supporting increased production and incomes.
  • The NTB will focus on research and development, value addition, and creating awareness about turmeric’s medical and essential properties for expanding its global trade.
  • India leads global turmeric production, accounting for over 70% of output, with 10.74 lakh tonnes grown across 3.05 lakh hectares in 2023, and 62% of global turmeric exports valued at $226.5 million.
  • The Board will ensure quality and safety standards, strengthen logistics and supply chains, and establish a price stabilization fund to protect farmers from market fluctuations and crop losses.
