Microsoft Launches AI Initiatives in India

On 8th January 2025, CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella announced Microsoft’s AI-driven partnership with India’s AI Mission to upskill 500,000 people and foster inclusive growth by 2026.

  • Microsoft signed an MoU with India AI to drive innovation, productivity, and inclusivity through AI initiatives across the country.
  • The partnership will establish an AI Center of Excellence, ‘AI Catalysts,’ to support 100,000 developers and foster rural AI innovation through hackathons and solutions.
  • Plans include setting up ‘AI Productivity Labs’ at 20 National Skill Training Institutes and NIELIT centers to provide foundational AI education for 20,000 educators.
  • Citizen-centric AI solutions will be developed in domains such as healthcare, education, accessibility, and agriculture.
  • A separate five-year strategic partnership with RailTel aims to accelerate digital and AI transformation in Indian Railways and public sectors.
