NSV Tarini Embarks on Navika Sagar Parikrama-II

On 4th January 2025, INSV Tarini, helmed by two Indian Navy women officers, began the third leg of its global circumnavigation from Lyttelton, New Zealand, to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands.

  • The circumnavigation covers 23,000 nautical miles over 240 days, with stops on four continents.
  • The current leg spans 5,600 nautical miles, crossing the treacherous Southern Ocean and Drake Passage at 56°S.
  • During the Lyttelton stopover, the crew conducted vessel maintenance, engaged with the Indian community, and hosted visitors onboard.
  • Traditional Maori prayers and dignitaries, including Christchurch City Council members, marked the departure ceremony.
  • The journey includes five legs: Goa to Fremantle, Fremantle to Lyttelton, Lyttelton to Port Stanley, Port Stanley to Cape Town, and Cape Town back to Goa.
  • INSV Tarini, a 56-foot vessel inducted into the Navy in 2017, has clocked 66,000 nautical miles in various expeditions, including the inaugural Navika Sagar Parikrama in 2017.
