Ganga Conservation Projects

On 31st December, 2024, the Central Government sanctioned Rs. 272 crore for projects in Chandauli and Manikpur, Uttar Pradesh, under the National Mission for Clean Ganga, aimed at preserving the river's ecological and cultural importance.
- The 59th Executive Committee meeting of NMCG approved various river conservation initiatives aimed at ensuring the sustainability and cleanliness of the Ganga River.
- The approved projects focus on enhancing the environmental health of the Ganga, with an emphasis on preserving its cultural significance and promoting sustainable development.
- In addition to Uttar Pradesh, a major project worth ₹257 crore was approved for Buxar, Bihar, focusing on comprehensive river rejuvenation efforts.
- The Buxar project includes the construction of a modern Sewage Treatment Plant capable of processing 50 million liters of wastewater per day, along with other supporting infrastructure.
- These initiatives align with the National Mission for Clean Ganga’s overarching goal of protecting the river's environmental integrity for future generations.
