On 25th December, 2024, M.T. Vasudevan Nair, one of India's greatest writers and filmmakers, passed away in Kozhikode, Kerala, leaving behind a legacy that shaped both Malayalam literature and cinema.
- M.T. Vasudevan Nair, widely known as M.T., was born in Kudallur, Kerala, and made a lasting impact on literature from a young age, with his novel Asuravithu being hailed as one of the best in Malayalam.
- His first major recognition came with his short story Valarthumrigangal, which won a prestigious competition organized by the New York Herald Tribune, Mathrubhumi, and Hindustan Times.
- M.T. was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Jnanpith Award in 1995, the Ezhuthachan Award in 2011, and the Padma Bhushan in 2005, cementing his place as one of India's most esteemed literary figures.
- His works were often translated into English, and he was also honored with the title of Doctor of Letters by both the University of Calicut and Mahatma Gandhi University.
- M.T.'s novels and short stories reflected the sociopolitical changes in Kerala, offering a profound insight into the region’s cultural and historical evolution.
