​Easterine Kire Wins Sahitya Akademi Award

In December, 2024, renowned author Easterine Kire from Nagaland has been awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award 2024 for her novel Spirit Nights.

  • Easterine Kire’s award-winning novel, Spirit Nights, published by Simon & Schuster India, draws inspiration from a story of darkness narrated by the Chang Naga tribe.
  • The Sahitya Akademi announced its annual awards in 21 languages, recognizing exemplary literary contributions across India.
  • Alongside Kire, Sameer Tanti won for his Assamese novel Pharingbore Bator Katha Jane, while Haobam Satyabati Devi’s Manipuri poetry work Mainu Bora Nungshi Sheirol also received accolades.
  • Aron Raja received the award for his Bodo novel Swrni Thakhai, highlighting literary achievements from the North East region.
  • Each awardee will be honored with a copper plaque, a ceremonial shawl, and a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh during the ceremony scheduled for March 8, 2025, in Delhi.
