D Gukesh Becomes Youngest World Chess Champion

On 12th December, 2024, Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh, 18, defeated China's Ding Liren in a dramatic final to become the youngest-ever world chess champion, securing the title in a 14-game match.

D Gukesh clinched the world chess championship with a decisive win in the 14th and final game, securing the required 7.5 points over Ding Liren's 6.5.
The high-stakes match witnessed Gukesh delivering a victory in classical time control after 58 moves spanning four hours.
Before his historic triumph, the youngest world chess champion was Garry Kasparov, who won the title at age 22 in 1985.
Gukesh's achievement makes him the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand, a five-time champion, to claim the global title, last held by Anand in 2013.
