Indian Chemical Council Wins Prestigious OPCW Award

On 25th November 2024, the Indian Chemical Council (ICC) received the 2024 OPCW-The Hague Award for its significant contributions to chemical safety and compliance under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), a first for any chemical industry body.

  • The award was presented during the 29th Session of the Conference of the States Parties of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) at The Hague.
  • India is an original signatory to the Chemical Weapons Convention, which came into force in 1997 and is implemented globally by the OPCW headquartered in The Hague.
  • The ICC, representing over 80% of India's $220 billion chemical industry, has championed initiatives like the ‘Responsible Care’ programme and the Security Code to enhance safety and security in the sector.
  • Its ‘Nicer Globe’ initiative has significantly improved chemical transportation safety in India, providing real-time tracking and emergency response solutions.
